Product Story
Rooted in Rwanda's rich tradition of basket weaving, the Spiral Raffia Placemat showcases the skill, patience, and creativity of local artisans. The making process begins with carefully selecting and preparing natural raffia fibres, which are cleaned, dried, and dyed where necessary to achieve the desired colours. Using traditional handweaving techniques, artisans carefully coil and weave the fibres from the centre outward, gradually forming the distinctive spiral pattern. Each layer is tightly secured to create a durable, evenly shaped placemat with a beautiful textured finish.

Basket weaving holds deep cultural significance in Rwanda, where woven products have traditionally been used for household purposes, decoration, and meaningful gift-giving. Rwanda's renowned Agaseke baskets, for example, symbolize peace, unity, friendship, and reconciliation. Drawing inspiration from this longstanding weaving heritage, the Spiral Raffia Placemat reflects the importance of preserving traditional craftsmanship while adapting it to modern living. Each handcrafted piece celebrates Rwanda's cultural identity and the enduring artistry of African weaving traditions.
